Bourbon barrels have a thankless job. Charring, years of expansion and compression, sitting in the dark nurturing their precious nectar. After performing such a heroic service, it seems a shame that the bourbon barrel’s usefulness comes to an end when the distillation begins.
We decided to do something about that. Louisville artist Jason Cohen has transformed these noble Pappy Van Winkle bourbon barrel staves into cutting boards, each bearing the iconic Pappy & Company keys symbolizing hospitality, warmth and enjoyment. He then uses the barrel plugs known as "bungs" as the feet of the cutting board, which raise the profile of the board and helps keep things easy to clean up. The next time you cut the perfect lemon wedge, do it with artistry, dedication and good taste. The way Pappy would have wanted.
Dimensions: 15 inches round
As the natural wood of the bourbon barrel stave used to create this cutting board will dry out over time and use, we suggest periodically applying food safe mineral oil with a dry cloth, towel or sponge to maintain the care and luster. Rinse with mild soap and warm water and dry immediately. Never soak the cutting board in water and minimize overall exposure to water.
