Pappy bourbon barrels endure Kentucky’s dynamic seasons for up to 23 years, expanding and contracting to develop the rich, complex character of Pappy Van Winkle bourbon. Since bourbon barrels cannot be used further after the bourbon is dumped and bottled, we take pride in keeping our barrels close, honoring their history by giving them a new life.

That’s why we’ve formed an exclusive partnership with master craftsman Jason Cohen. Together with the Van Winkle sisters, this collaboration transforms our family’s retired barrels into one-of-a-kind pieces that blend Jason’s artistry with our design vision.

Every item in The Woodshop is crafted from the barrel wood that has aged some of the world’s most renowned bourbons. From bar accessories to functional home furnishings, each piece strikes a balance of rugged authenticity and refined craftsmanship.

Every piece is handcrafted by Louisville's own Jason Cohen. He takes authentic reclaimed Pappy Van Winkle barrels, designed to highlight the natural beauty and history of these barrel staves.

Meet Louisville-based woodworker and “bourbon barrel artisan” Jason Cohen. A master craftsman with more than 20 years of experience, Jason brings barrels back to life through handcrafted artistry.

After a life-changing accident shifted his perspective and dexterity, Jason found purpose in woodworking, eventually falling in love with barrel stave wood.

With Jason on board full-time, our dream of a dedicated, in-house woodshop is a reality.
