He began experimenting with barrel-aged pepper sauce as a hobby, giving bottles to family and friends. The hot sauce was an immediate hit in the Van Winkle house, and with a little help from Dave and his family, who now grow small-batch ghost peppers full-time in West Central Georgia, it became one of our first Pappy & Company pantry staples. I cannot review a product I never got to taste. My package came smashed in, with a broken bottle inside. I reported this to customer service on 12/15. I got an automated response saying I’d be contacted. That never happened.

Excellent hot sauce, some heat with an underlying sweetness.

Very tasty product, probably the best Louisiana style pepper sauce I've tried. The heat level is isn't overly aggressive and there's none of the overpowering vinegar and/or saltiness that's fairly common in other sauces of this type.

I enjoy the pepper flavor. I have grown ghost peppers. The sauce needs a little more heat. But of course that is a personal preference and when it comes to pepper heat level, we all have our own opinions. Thank you all at Pappy & Co. for great products and superb customer service!!!

This hit sauce has just the right amount of heat and the barrel flavor adds a nice touch.

Sweet with a tiny kick of spicy flavor!

Nice, sweet honey flavor with just a minor kick of spicy after it sits on your tongue. The consistency is on the watery side which is perfect for dashing a few drops here and there. If you are a regular chili head who loves spice, this hits at around a 3.5 level. If you are sensitive to spice, I'd say it's a 5.5. All around a great hot sauce! Can't go wrong.

It's an all time favorite for my son-in-law. You can't go wrong when giving Pappy's as a gift.

I am not a hot sauce connoisseur, but I dated one. He collected them, took me to a hot sauce convention once, and gave me a six pack of his favorite hot sauces for Christmas one year. We were not a match. I am a relatively normal woman who just wants a good tasting hot sauce in my fridge for recipes. Given my experience with weird hot sauce guy, I did learn various flavors and heats of hot sauces. I did learn to love a few and stepped outside of the boundaries of buying Cholula at the grocery store. What I DO love are old fashioneds. This brought me to the Pappyco site. I then stumbled on their cornbread mix (meh) and part of that recipe was THE PAPPY VAN WINKLE BOURBON BARREL AGED PEPPER SAUCE. I have to say, this hot sauce is outstanding. With my accidental wisdom in hot sauces, this is THE best flavor and heat combination I have ever tried. My new staple. The old fashioned mix and the hot sauce will keep me coming back to this site as a regular.

I assumed when purchasing this, it was going to be more of a novelty item/show piece. I love Pappy and love hot sauce but the two can't surely go together. I was wrong. It is a hot sauce. Don't let the ghost pepper scare you. It is a sweet but nuke l mild hot sauce that once I tasted I have now put on everything. I'm on my second bottle within a month and have a third on order. They are serious about their product. I've now done the Syrup, coffee, and bourbon balls. All incredible.
