We consider ourselves more than lucky to turn in one winning ticket on Derby Day, (although to be honest we are partial to an across the board bet in the hopes that our chosen horse will finish Win, Place or Show), so we are always intrigued when we witness someone cash in a Superfecta. Selecting the correct winning order of horses in the top 4 positions seems more than just a passing stroke of luck, but it inspired our Superfecta Sweepstakes: celebrating Derby with four recipes from four aspiring chefs from the Lee Initiative, to win a one-of-a-kind Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon barrel hand painted by famed equestrian painter Tyler Robertson.

1. The Lee Initiative: Let's Empower Employment
A portion of proceeds from our Superfecta Sweepstakes will benefit the Lee Initiative and support their mission of increasing diversity in the restaurant industry, continuing our efforts through our Bourbon for Good Initiative.
2. Chef Creations using Pappy & Company Products
We invited chefs and mixologists from the Women Culinary and Spirits program to craft unique recipes exclusively for Pappy & Company using some of our barrel-aged gourmet products. We let them choose and sat back and waited for the result, and we were not disappointed! Inventive craft cocktails, delicious desserts and innovative recipes incorporating our Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon Barrel-Aged Coffee, Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon Barrel-Aged Pure Maple Syrup, Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon Barrel-Aged Pepper Sauce, and Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon Barrel-Aged Coffee Brittle. We were inspired by their creative culinary takes and have created four bundles with some of our favorite Pappy & Company products to recreate their unique creations, or inspire you to create your own!

3. The Barrel
Among the many philosophies we have adopted from our great-grandfather Pappy Van Winkle, is the idea that "we age gracefully, not quickly." While very few things are valued for their increasing age, bourbon and the barrels responsible for their aging process are certainly an exception to that rule. And just like the bourbon that is lovingly aged within, each of the barrels carry a unique story.
A bourbon barrel essentially has one purpose, preserving and aging the bourbon secured within, infusing flavor, color and character throughout the process. A fact some don't know, in order to be considered bourbon, a requirement is that the bourbon barrel itself is not reused for aging whiskey. Meaning once the bourbon barrel completes its job, although beautifully, it is essentially retired from the very industry it is responsible for!
A collector’s item in its own right, our genuine Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon Barrel is signed by Julian Van Winkle and has been hand painted by Tyler Robertson for the ultimate completely one-of-a-kind collector’s item.
4. The artist
Louisville artist and famed equestrian painter Tyler Robertson. Whose work has been celebrated and featured worldwide, who was chosen as the official artist of the 2018 Breeders Cup and is the youngest artist ever featured in the Cross Gate Gallery Sporting Art Auction at Keeneland Racetrack. Tyler also shares a similar philanthropic philosophy to giving back to his community and supports a variety of causes and missions both in Kentucky and beyond, including his annual live painting during the Giant Steps Charity Classic in Sonoma to raise funds for equine assisted therapy for cognitive, physical and emotional development. We’ve been fortunate to partner with Tyler previously on a tee-shirt featuring his unique take on our iconic 23 Year pappy. He aims to create art that while modern will always be classic and his equestrian series portrays the beauty and movement of the sport. This unique hand-painted design beautifully represents the color, the life and the magic of the Kentucky Derby.
So this is what we could certainly call a winning ticket!
